Lindströms Mat service advances sustainability efforts with more sustainable standard mat collection.

Lindström, among the pioneers in the textile industry, is proud to announce a significant leap in its sustainability journey by introducing an upgraded standard mat collection made with more sustainable materials. As part of Lindströms ongoing efforts to offer circular solution, the company has recognised the importance of incorporating recycled materials into its product offerings. Starting this autumn, all the new mats in the standard collection will be crafted using 75% recycled yarn and phthalates-free rubber, complementing the existing design mat collection, which is already produced with 100% recycled yarn. Importantly, the transition will be seamless for customers, with no changes to the products that they already know. The global rollout of this sustainable collection will continue until 2025. Easily spotted with a little circular icon next to Lindströms logo on the right side, the new standard mats align with Lindströms climate targets which have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. The company aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% across the value chain by 2030 and ultimately achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Furthermore, Lindström is committed to ensuring that 30% of all purchased textiles include recycled or biobased fibers by 2025. Switching from virgin materials to recycled and bio-based ones is one of the most effective means on Lindströms journey towards net-zero, says Taru Jokinen, Director of Concept Development and Sustainability at Lindström, Using recycled nylon contributes to waste reduction, resource conservation, and a lower carbon footprint. But thats not all. The durability and quality are the same as with mats made of virgin materials, and the collection remains cost-effective.” The goal was to find materials and production methods that ensure the products and their quality remain the same, explains Kaspars Grava, Service Owner of Mat services at Lindström. “Were making this change without touching the laundry process or the service concept itself,” he adds. The transition has been a collaborative effort with key partners, RadiciGroup and Kleen-Tex. Sustainability is a shared responsibility, notes Giada Angeli, Marketing Product Manager at RadiciGroup, Our partnership with Lindström and Kleen-Tex is based on knowledge exchange and challenging innovations, optimising supply chains, raising sustainability awareness, and sharing common values. Both the yarn and the mats are manufactured in Europe, further reducing the mats environmental footprint. “By working together, and continually testing to ensure the product we bring to market are best in class, we continue to delight our customers. As a business and an industry, it is our duty to ensure that our business models are sustainable” says Elaine Smith, European Marketing Director at Kleen-Tex. Sustainability efforts at Lindström extend beyond recycled fiber, with plans to add recycled content to the rubber and explore end-of-life recycling solutions. The company is actively investigating options to recycle old mats into new materials, further contributing to a circular economy.
